Contact to raise $400m to build Tauhara, lifts half-year profit

Contact Energy has kicked off a $400 million equity raise to build a new 152 megawatt geothermal power station at Tauhara, near Taupō.
The company said it planned to raise $325m from an underwritten institutional placement at $7 a share - a 2.8 per cent discount to Friday s closing price - and a $75 million non-underwritten retail offer.
Trade in the company s shares have been put into a trading halt until Wednesday while it undertakes the placement.

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents arrested a man in Imperial Beach Thursday afternoon who was transporting illegal aliens in his car.
At approximately 5 p.m. on February 11, agents initiated a vehicle stop on a suspicious black Cadillac sedan near Sunset Avenue and Saturn Boulevard in Imperial Beach, Calif.
The driver failed to pull over and fled from agents at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, the driver of the Cadillac side-swiped a marked Border Patrol vehicle and another vehicle before coming to a stop.

Dr Jodi McAlister, a lecturer in writing and literature with the School of Communication and Creative Arts, studies representations of love in popular culture and believes romance novels provide valuable insights into the ways we love and express our love.
“There is still a stigma around reading ‘those silly books for women’ but romance fiction is far from silly,” Dr McAlister said.
